Call My Agent remake casts Lydia Leonard and Jack Davenport

Thursday, 6th May 2021 at 4:03 pm An English language remake of French comedy hit Call My Agent is on the way – and the cast for the UK version has just been revealed. Advertisement Tony Award-nominated actor Lydia Leonard leads the cast as Alexa, a version of Andréa Martel from the original series, while Pirates of the Caribbean star Jack Davenport takes on the role of Jonathan – who is based on Mathias Barneville. Other actors set to appear in leading roles in the series include Maggie Steed (EastEnders), Prasanna Puwanarajah (Doctor Foster), Harry Trevaldwyn (The King) and Hiftu Quasem (The Nest).

Advertisement The BBC One drama follows three very different families, and the show’s central characters are based on women whom Hughes interviewed (all names have been changed to protect their anonymity and privacy). The series synopsis reads, “A mother faces prison for trying to help her pregnant teenage daughter. Two young newlyweds learn that their much-wanted first child will die of a fatal foetal abnormality. If they lived in England, Wales or Scotland, both families could seek a legal termination. But this is Northern Ireland, where abortion laws have been among the most restrictive in Europe.”

It’s not often TV serves up a submarine drama, but UK drama Vigil has dropped its first trailer. The 6 part series, which stars Suranne Jones ( Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack), as two seemingly disparate events – the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death aboard a Trident nuclear submarine – bring the police into direct conflict with the navy and British security services. The series from World Productions ( Line of Duty, Bodyguard, The Pembrokeshire Murders) is written and created by Tom Edge ( Strike, The Crown, Judy) and also features Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph. It will screen on both Foxtel / Binge in 2021, while SBS has also picked up Free to Air rights which will follow sometime later.
