Birmingham police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded about 12:30 p.m. to Bankhead Highway and Second Street Thomas. When they arrived on the scene, they found the victim in a sedan in the middle of Bankhead Highway suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
61-year-old man shot by elderly father during domestic dispute at Hoover home

A 61-year-old man was seriously injured in a Saturday-afternoon shooting in Hoover.
The city’s 911 center received a call at 2:20 p.m. on a report of a shooting at home in the 3500 block of Polo Parc Court, said Lt. Keith Czeskleba. They arrived to find the man suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken by Hoover Fire medics to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center.
Czeskleba said the victim’s father called to report he shot his son during a domestic incident. The elderly father was taken to the Hoover Police Department for questioning and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed and detectives are trying to sort out the details.

“I don’t sleep because my mind is constantly racing, trying to put together the who and the why,’ Smith said. “I just don’t get what was so bad, so horrible for you to still have life and my child doesn’t. It’s like one of those movies where you are left hanging. I don’t have an ending.”
Suspect in Tuscaloosa officer’s murder accused of trying to bribe a jailer for drugs

The 21-year-old man charged with capital murder in the killing of veteran Tuscaloosa police investigator Dornell Cousette is now charged with a new crime.
Luther Bernard Watkins Jr. is charged with trying to bribe a public servant after authorities say he offered a jailer $700 in exchange for narcotics. The crime is a felony.
Watkins is charged in the Sept. 16, 2019 death of Cousette. The deadly shooting happened when Cousette was trying to serve felony warrants on Watkins. When Cousette got to the home at 6:23 p.m., the suspect ran inside. Cousette, who authorities said was on duty and in full uniform, ordered Watkins to stop but he did not. The office followed and an exchange of gunfire ensued. Both Cousette and Watkins were wounded.
