The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 that increases the time period within which an abortion may be carried out.
Opposition MPs pointed out that the Bill still does not give women the freedom to decide, since she will need a nod from a medical board in the case of pregnancies beyond 24 weeks.

Rajya Sabha passes Termination of Pregnancy Bill and National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill.
The Rajya Sabha passed the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2020 and the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill, 2020.
Both Houses saw multiple adjournments on all days of last week as the Opposition demanded a discussion on the rising prices of fuel in the country.

Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the bill that provides for raising the upper limit for legal termination of pregnancy from 20 to 24 weeks for certain categories of women and expands the access of women to safe and legal abortion services on therapeutic, eugenic, humanitarian and social grounds .
The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was passed in the Upper House by a voice vote after it was moved by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for consideration and passing.
