GEORGE NEWS - George Correctional Services mourns the death of their centre head, Jan Tieties (58). Tieties passed away on 1 January at Mediclinic George after having tested positive for Covid-19.
He had been employed by the Department of Correctional Services for 38 years and has spent the last decade at the George correctional facility.
Regional Commissioner Delekile Klaas mourned Tieties passing. Tieties was much-loved. He was a hard worker, committed and had excellent human relations. He was also a religious leader at the George Correctional Centre. He would be the first to comfort others for the loss of their loved ones. He was a father figure for many - always on the ground, giving support.

GEORGE NEWS - The birth of five new babies in George Hospital and Mediclinic George was celebrated on Friday 25 December.
George Hospital welcomed the first Christmas baby in the early morning hours, at 03:52.
The mother, Donnelee Malgas, was radiant with joy over her healthy baby boy, Jacquin, weighing in at 3,62kg with a length of 49,5cm. Four babies were born at George Hospital on 25 December - one girl and three boys.
On behalf of Western Cape Government Health, spokesperson Nadia Ferreira congratulated the parents on the safe delivery of all the new arrivals. We also extend a sincere thank you to all our staff members, including midwives, for their hard work and dedication on this special day, she said.

GEORGE NEWS - Eleven babies were welcomed in George on New Year’s Day. The first baby arrived on 1 January at 03:03 at George Hospital, where a total seven babies (five girls and two boys) were delivered during the course of the day, yesterday.
At Mediclinic George four babies (two boys and two girls) were born on the first day of 2021.
The first baby was born at 07:00 to Le-Anne Donson, who couldn’t be happier with her 2,69 kg boy, Ardie.
Tanja Groenewald welcomed a baby boy, Meyer, weighing 3,59 kg, and Jeandré and Adele Coetzer celebrated the birth of their first child, Iliné, weighing 3,65 kg.

GEORGE NEWS - Public hospitals in the Western Cape are currently under severe pressure.
A sharp increase in Covid-19 admissions and an increase in trauma cases, such as alcohol-related injuries and road accidents, are the cause of the situation.
People are waiting with baited breath for a possible proclamation that might change the levels of lockdown. The pressure hospitals are currently experiencing is the main point of discussion. According to a report in a Sunday newspaper, doctors have pleaded for stricter regulations.
