Betty (Gazda-Smith) beloved wife, mother and grandmother. After a life-long hard fought battle with autoimmune diseases and their complications, Betty passed away on May 2, 2021 at her Sanibel condo. Preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Rose Gazda. Survived by husband Jerry Smith, son Matthew Smith (Maggie), daughter Rachel Mullin (Jonathan), grandchildren Cole Mullin, Kieran Mullin, Rosalie Smith, Leona Mullin, brother Thomas Gazda and sisters Dianne Gazda and Christine Kramer (Christopher), and many nieces and nephews. Devastating Butte fires a common occurrence

EDITOR S NOTE: There are not enough pages in a Sunday newspaper to mention every major Butte fire — from the city s infancy to present day. Suffice to say, the Mining City has had its fair share. Today’s story and photographs feature several that have occurred throughout Butte’s history. Butte firefighters worked from the early morning hours and all day on Friday as a fire gutted the iconic M&M Cigar Store in Uptown Butte.  Meagan Thompson, The Montana Standard The fire that destroyed the historic M&M Cigar Store on May 7 reminded us all that we’ve been down this road before — many, many times. Irma Reynolds Lyon GREEN BAY, Wis. Irma Reynolds Lyon, 91, peacefully passed away on April 5, 2021. Irma was born on April 22, 1929, in Reedsburg, Wis. to Fyrl and Ruby (Mundth) Reynolds. After schooling in Reedsburg, she attended the University of WI-Madison School of Applied Music, graduating in 1951 with high honors. She developed her beautiful contralto voice during her time there as well as mastered the piano, violin, bassoon, and pipe organ. Shortly after school, Irma auditioned with Dr. Leo Sowerby, a prominent composer, music director, and organist for the Saint James Episcopal Cathedral on Rush Street in Chicago, Ill. She was hired on the spot to sing as a member of a paid vocal quartet, performing at Sunday worship services and other special events. Irma also traveled to New York City and sang with the St. Norbert Dudley Birder Chorale.
