Minneapolis unrest after Winston Smith death continues into second night Dom Calicchio Minneapolis saw a second night of unrest Friday following Thursday’s fatal shooting of Winston Smith by law enforcement officers. The evening s protests came hours after authorities said Smith had fired a weapon before being killed.  Protesters blocked traffic in the city’s Uptown area, using motorcycles, bike racks and dumpsters, the Star-Tribune of Minneapolis reported. As of 11 p.m. local time Friday no arrests had been reported. But later posts on social media suggested that some protesters had been taken into custody. Earlier in the evening, a crowd gathered at the parking ramp where Smith died following a confrontation with sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Marshal Service personnel, according to the newspaper.

A Friday night vigil was planned near the site .

One dead, one in custody following third overnight homicide in Minneapolis Published  MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Authorities in Minneapolis are investigating a third homicide from early Saturday morning, according to Metro Transit Police.  Metro Transit Police say around 2 a.m. officers near South Fifth Street and Hennepin Avenue came upon a fight. Officers say they witnessed a man shoot another man. Police responded by shooting the suspect in the leg.  The victim who was shot by the suspect was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where we died from his injuries.  The suspect was also taken to HCMC and treated for his injuries. He was then brought to the Hennepin County Jail where he is awaiting charges.
