Police: Brother accidentally kills Syracuse University student while showing off new gun Updated Dec 23, 2020; A Syracuse University student is dead after her brother accidentally shot her while showing off his new gun, police said Wednesday. The New York Post reports Laura Rodriguez, identified as a 19-year-old senior at Syracuse University, was killed at her family’s home in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday when her 18-year-old brother accidentally shot her in the neck while handling a firearm. Rodriguez had been living at home and taking classes remotely at SU due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to KTRK, Houston police responded to reports of a shooting around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Officers said Rodriguez’s brother was showing off his gun when it went off; an older sibling called 911 and tried to administer CPR.
