Police: Brother accidentally kills Syracuse University student while showing off new gun

A Syracuse University student is dead after her brother accidentally shot her while showing off his new gun, police said Wednesday.
The New York Post reports Laura Rodriguez, identified as a 19-year-old senior at Syracuse University, was killed at her family’s home in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday when her 18-year-old brother accidentally shot her in the neck while handling a firearm. Rodriguez had been living at home and taking classes remotely at SU due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to KTRK, Houston police responded to reports of a shooting around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Officers said Rodriguez’s brother was showing off his gun when it went off; an older sibling called 911 and tried to administer CPR.

The death has occurred of Maureen Mernagh, Forristalstown, Glenmore, Kilkenny, December 15. Maureen (retired nurse) in her 96th year, peacefully in the care of New Ross Community Hospital, former Sacristan to St James Church Glenmore.
