Isaac Bryan takes Big Lead in 54th AD Race By City News Service Isaac Bryan, (Courtesy Image) Educator and community organizer, Isaac Bryan, was just short of the majority needed to win the 54th Assembly District special election without a runoff, according to semi-official results released tonight by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office. Bryan had 49.62% of the vote. Fellow Democrat Heather Hutt, a former state director for then-Sen. Kamala Harris, was second with 24.61%. Attorney Cheryl C. Turner, also a Democrat, was third with 10.49%, the only other candidate in the field of five Democrats and a Socialist Worker’s Party candidate with more than 8%.

Attorney for Anthony McClain Demand Justice in Pasadena Police Shooting - Los Angeles Sentinel

George Floyd family attorney, Benjamin Crump, Anthony McClain, and co-counsel, Caree Harper, led a rally in front of Pasadena City Hall on Monday.  Family members of McClain were joined by two of George Floyd’s brothers in demanding justice in the shooting of McClain who was shot last summer by a Pasadena police officer. 

Regina King Will Direct an Adaptation of Portland Comic Bitter Root

King will direct the film adaptation of  Bitter Root, a series he co-created with illustrator Sanford Greene and writer Chuck Brown that s published by Portland giant Image Comics. Instantly acclaimed when it premiered in 2019,  Bitter Root is set in a mid-Renaissance 1920s Harlem, where a family of monster hunters has to heal intergenerational wounds or else watch the world succumb to demonic forces. King attached herself late last year, and her involvement was announced publicly on May 11. In the very earliest days of development, her name was on the list, and [her directorial debut]  One Night In Miami hadn t even come out yet, but there were a bunch of rumors floating around that she’d been directing and wanted to do a feature,” Walker says. “I kept pushing. I was like, ‘Regina! Regina!’ … and we just kind of lucked out.”
