Scientists are calling on new US President Joe Biden to revive the cancer moonshot programme, aimed at ending the disease that kills tens of thousands of Americans each year, and which took the life of his son, Beau.

Gevo, Inc (NASDAQ: GEVO) shares closed almost 72% higher on Tuesday. The company’s shares reached their 52-week high of $11.68 on the same day.
What Happened: The Englewood, Colorado-based company’s co-founder Frances Arnold has been named to President-Elect Joe Biden’s science team, Gevo said in a statement.
Arnold is set to take over as the co-chairman of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology along with the fellow Nobel awardee Maria Zuber, a renowned astronomer.
The science team is tasked with tackling issues such as climate change. Gevo CEO Patrick Gruber praised the appointment.
“This appointment is well deserved. Gevo has benefited from Professor Arnold s outstanding work in developing enzymes crucial to our technology.”

The Joe Biden-Kamala Harris transition team has announced who will serve on the White House science team under their administration. The advisers will help Biden and Harris deal with climate change, pandemics, racial inequity, the economic downturn and how technology impacts society, Biden and Harris said Tuesday.
The team includes Eric Lander as the presidential science adviser and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy; Alondra Nelson as OSTP deputy director for science and society; Frances H. Arnold and Maria Zuber as co-chairs of the President s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology; Dr. Francis Collins as director of
Maria Zuber, a senior leader and faculty member at MIT who earned her Ph.D. from Brown, will lead the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

The new US president Joe Biden has named several preeminent researchers to his science team and raised the status of the presidential science adviser to a cabinet-level position. The news has thrilled science groups and research advocates across the country.
Just days before his 20 January inauguration, Biden announced key members of his White House science team, including Eric Lander, a geneticist who currently serves as the president and founding director of the Broad Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, as his pick for science adviser.
If confirmed by the Senate, Lander will also become director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Biden has made the decision to promote this position to a cabinet-level one for the first time in the post’s history.
