Hundreds of people in the Valencia Reserve neighborhood in Boynton Beach are upset at what they say is the unauthorized construction of a nearly half-mile lake and other structures in their agricultural preserve, which they say will lead to flooding, loud noise, and lower property values.County leaders have issued stop-work orders and notices of violation against this construction.However, the developers say the construction is permitted under state law.“Our community here of about 2,000 residents is outraged,” said Jeffrey Schepp, the acting president of the Valencia Reserve Homeowners Association. A mass COVID-19 vaccination site could open at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach by the end of the month.WPBF 25 News learned about this future vaccination site through this online job posting that just became available.The Health Care District of Palm Beach County is looking for 27 more COVID-19 vaccine assistants to assist with operations at the future vaccination site. The new job can begin as early as the end of the month, according to the online job posting. The district is currently finished hiring data entry clerks for this new effort. Health Care District of Palm Beach County leaders expect these full-time positions to last about six months. On Tuesday, after alerting residents that vaccines were on the way, state officials reneged.
“What are we, chopped liver?” asked David Israel, president of the United Civic Association that oversees the sprawling community off Okeechobee Boulevard and Haverhill Road.
However, in a sign of the chaotic nature of the rollout of the vaccine, Israel had barely stopped fuming about being misled by the state when he received a phone call late Wednesday.
In a 24-hour reversal, state emergency managers said residents of Century Village in West Palm Beach would be receiving a shipment of vaccines after all.
“Very good news indeed,” Israel said, adding that the community will receive 3,000 doses as soon as next Wednesday.
