CAPE TOWN - Following news of the resignation of Bonginkosi Madikizela as Western Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) leader and Transport and Public Works MEC, opposition parties have mixed feelings.
He s admitted to lying about his tertiary education qualifications on his CV.
The opposition in the province has accused the DA of double standards following the resignation of Bonginkosi Madikizela from the executive council and as the party’s provincial leader.
Has the DA’s Chief Whip, Natasha Mazzone, been dishonest about her educational background? In particular, has Mazzone claimed to hold a law qualification that she actually never completed?
This was the question that began to circulate both within the party and on social media following the publication of a
Daily Maverick article on 13 April revealing that the party’s Western Cape leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela, was publicly claiming a BCom degree he had not actually earned.
Mazzone is not the only DA figure facing this kind of accusation in the aftermath of the Madikizela scandal. Questions have also been asked of the DA’s Saldanha Bay Mayor Marius Koen and Western Cape MEC for Human Settlements Tertuis Simmers, with Koen under investigation by the party.
DA to take no action on Madikizela for now, spotlight on Koen and Mazzone

Cape Town - A meeting of the DA’s provincial executive committee has decided to wait until the completion of the DA’s federal legal commission (FLC) investigation of suspended Western Cape Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela before taking any action on him for lying about his qualifications.
At the same time, Saldanha mayor Marius Koen is still in office as the DA investigates allegations that have been made challenging his credentials from a British university and the party has defended its parliamentary chief whip Natasha Mazzone from claims that she had lied about her accomplishments.
