School Board approves levy with slight increase

SCREENSHOT FROM LIVESTREAM FAIRMONT — After a month-long recess, the Marion Board of Education met for a brief meeting Tuesday to approve the annual school levy. The Board originally met March 15 to review the proposed levy rates but had to wait for the state assessor to approve the rates. Tuesday s meeting was just to accept the rates, which we recently approved. The levy saw a slight increase in budget over the previous year. The excess levy is set to bring in $17,769,230 during the 2021-2022 fiscal year, an increase of over $115,000 from the previous.

Marion Realtors group to merge with Columbus organization The Marion Board of Realtors will become part of the Columbus Realtors organization, the latest small central Ohio group to merge with the Columbus association. Marion s eight agents will continue as the Marion County Realty Association, but administrative and financial duties will be handled by Columbus Realtors.  As the Marion County Realty Association, we maintain our own identity and will continue our involvement and service to the Marion community,” said Jennifer Russell, president of the Marion Board of Realtors. “The merger will free us of some administrative responsibilities while providing us access to additional programs, services and business opportunities.”

No appointment is needed. Please bring a picture ID. The walk-in clinic will be from noon to 6:30 p.m. and is located at the Marion Board of Developmental Disabilities complex at 2387 Harding Highway East in Marion.

Five Candidates Running For Three Seats On John A Logan College Board Of Trustees The John A Logan College Board of Trustee’s has three openings and 5 candidates wanting a seat. The League of Women’s voters and the Carbondale Public Library hosted a virtual candidate forum for the 5 candidates hoping to fill three board of trustee positions at John A Logan College. Board member Jacob Rendleman was unable to attend the forum and directed everyone to his facebook page for information about his candidacy. The four candidates who did participate are current board member Glenn Poshard who has an extensive background in education and politics.
