Maree Todd holds Caithness, Sutherland and Ross for SNP

Something went wrong - please try again later. Sign Up Maree Todd held the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross seat for the SNP but with a reduced majority. Despite hopes from Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie to take the seat, Ms Todd beat their candidate Molly Nolan with 15,889 votes to 13,298. The result significantly ate into the SNP majority of 3,193 at the last election, but did not cause the upset the Liberal Democrats had hoped for. Maree Todd paid tribute to her family in her victory speech, saying they were “everything”

Highland tourism priorities highlighted at election hustings 03/05/2021, 12:00 pm Better infrastructure and decentralisation of visitor management were highlighted as priorities for meeting tourism needs in the Highlands and Islands at a recent election hustings. Candidates representing six of the political parties standing for election to the Scottish Parliament were in agreement over these two issues. The online hustings was hosted by community interest company, Highland Tourism. All candidates called for decentralisation and more power at a local level, and business and community empowerment. Kirk Torrance, an Alba candidate standing for a Highlands and Islands regional seat, said: “Rural problems require rural solutions.”

Nearly three years ago I visited Caithness KLICS group which helps young carers in the area. At the time the charity was looking for a new forever home, so I was very pleased to hear last week that the group had finally found one in the old Norlin Playgroup. I’ve seen the photos on its Facebook page and it looks bright and welcoming and a great place for young carers to relax and get time away from all the help they give their families.
