The Kia was northbound in the inside lane of Northwest 35th Avenue Road and the Honda was southbound in the inside lane.
The Kia driver was trying to pick up a lighter on the floorboard and veered to the left of the roadway, crossing into the median break and struck (the Honda) in the front driver s side,” the report states.
Preliminary information from an official Sunday indicated the Kia may have been turning into the FedEx facility.
Shepherd suffered “non-incapacitating” injuries and a 52-year-old passenger in the Honda was injured and transported to a local hospital, the report said.
Both drivers were wearing lap and shoulder seat belts, the report states.
