The UFC is certainly taking advantage of the newly constructed Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The company is hosting three events in a span of eight days. The second of these shows, UFC on ESPN 20, is an early morning affair on Wednesday.
Originally slated to feature the highly anticipated showdown between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev, the event took a hit when Chimaev was unable to compete due to COVID-19 complications. Instead, the headliner now includes welterweights Michael Chiesa and Neil Magny. They are the eighth- and ninth-ranked 170-pounders in the UFC, and both fighters will look to extend a three-fight winning streak to climb ever closer to the top five.
The question in the title is legitimate in light of the extraordinary and unusual letter signed by all members of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff condemning Trump supporters for insurrection and calling on the US military to remain ready for another.
The question in the title is legitimate in light of the extraordinary and unusal letter signed by all members of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff condemning Trump supporters for insurrection and calling on the US military to remain ready for another attempt at sedition on inauguration day.
In the Joint Chiefs’ own words: “The violent riot in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021 was a direct assault on the US Congress, the Capitol building, and our Constitutional process.”
There was no riot, no assault on the Capitol, and no insurrection. As the videos show, there was no “storming of the Capitol.” Police allowed rally attendees inside, and they walked in calmly in line. (See, for example this.)
[Ed. Note This feature originally appeared on Combat Press prior to the scheduled fight between Nick Browne and Arthur Estrázulas at Legacy Fighting Alliance 95. After its publication, the fight was rescheduled for LFA 97. The article has been lightly edited here to account for the change in events.]
One of the greatest qualities in a leader is to lead by example. It’s easy for someone to stand on a pulpit and preach about things they believe in, but it’s a whole new ballgame when it’s time to walk the walk.
Nick “Nyquil” Browne is a leader on many levels. The collegiate wrestler and All-American boxer has been an instructor at the All-American MMA Academy in Uniontown, Pa., for several years, and earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu there in February. Around the same time he started his career as a pro fighter, he started working with kids outside the gym as well.
At UFC on ESPN+ 40, a pair of former UFC light-heavyweight title challengers meet in the main event. It’s a fight that could likely lead to the winner earning himself another crack at the belt.
Glover Teixeira is on a four-fight winning streak, which included a “Performance of the Night” in his last outing when he scored a fifth-round TKO of Anthony Smith. Thiago “Marreta” Santos had won four straight himself until he came up short at UFC 239 against Jon Jones. This fight was originally slated for the Sept. 12 fight card, but Teixeira tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The date was moved to Oct. 4, but then it was Santos whose test came back positive. This caused the fight to be rescheduled for a second time. Now, it looks like the third time’s the charm, as fans will finally see these two square off inside the Octagon.
