Senate, House settle on spending caps, details to follow

The total does not include debt service for capital projects, which will come out of a new State Capital and Infrastructure Fund. In a joint statement, Senate leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, and House Speaker Tim Moore, R-Cleveland, said they intend to direct $4.2 billion in spending through the new fund “to support critical needs across the state, including several transformational projects.” Although the exact numbers by department have yet to be spelled out, Berger and Moore said the budget agreement also includes significant tax reductions and the replenishment of the state’s “rainy-day” fund. “As we work out the details of the budget, we intend to fulfill our commitment to balance the budget while saving for future needs and cutting taxes for the vast majority of residents,” they said in the statement released Tuesday.

Jacksonville s former Times-Union site under contract for development

Fuqua Development officials did not respond to multiple requests for information on the estimated $250 million project and neither did the building s property owner, Morris Communications. Duval County property records show an assessed value of $15.12 million on the site. Fuqua Development developed the 60,000-square-foot Brooklyn Station retail center across the avenue, anchored by The Fresh Market and multiple restaurants. The company also developed hundreds of multi-family units nearby, part of more than 1,000 apartments built a few blocks away as the JTA works on expanding the use of its Skyway site. The development would be a boon to the Riverside, Brooklyn and Downtown area after The Times-Union s move to the Wells Fargo building at 1 Independent Drive. Boyer said her agency has been in discussion with Fuqua about the plans after a number of developers looked at prospects for the site.
