The Health Crisis Management Committee recommended lifting the confinement of N’Djamena, stating that “we need to learn to live with the virus”. Hundreds of the victims are living in the open after heavy rains and rampaging elephants destroyed their homes.  Heavy winds blow over Kai-Kai district on Cameroon’s northern border with Chad. The winds disrupt a ceremony in which 134 homeless civilians are receiving gifts from non-governmental organizations.   Alim Wendi, 26, a farmer and single mother of three,  is among the people running for nearby tents to escape the dust, grass and tree branches blown about by the strong winds.

COVID-19 update On 31 December 2020, the Government of Chad issued a decree closing the land borders of the city of N’Djamena for a week starting 1 January, with a stricter curfew from 6pm to 5am. Schools and universities, places of worship, bars, restaurants, markets are closed. On 4 January the air borders were closed to travelers. Public or private gatherings of people in groups larger than 10 are prohibited, and urban and interurban transport is forbidden. Health centers and food shops remain open and cargo flights are permitted. A minimum service is guaranteed for banks, public and private essential services, mobile telephone companies and oil stations. These restrictions apply within N’Djamena with the boundaries defined as east of N’Djamena-Koura, west of Mara, south of Koundoul and north of Djermaya.

UNICEF Chad COVID-19 Situation Report No. 8 for 22 October to 25 November 2020 Format Highlights As of 25 November 2020, out of the total of 1,661 confirmed COVID-19 cases registered in Chad (the majority being male aged 25-59 years), 26 are children. Of these 26 children, five cases have been confirmed in children under five (four girls and one boy), and 21 cases are children aged between 5 and 14 years (eleven girls and ten boys). During this reporting period, COVID-19 reported cases continued to increase particularly in the Southern provinces of Mayo Kebbi-Est/Ouest, Moyen Chari, Logone Occidental and Oriental; overall, the number of reported cases increased at a slower pace than at the beginning of the pandemic.
