Warrens man convicted of vehicular homicide

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) A Warrens man was convicted Wednesday four different charges stemming from a 2017 fatal car crash.
Yancy K. Dieter, 48, was convicted of one count of reckless homicide, one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, one count of homicide by use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration, one count of knowingly operating a motor vehicle while revoked causing death, and one count of failure to install an ignition interlock device, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
Dieter was driving at 120 mph while drunk when his vehicle went off the road and crashed, killing his passenger, according to records. A sample of Dieter’s blood, taken several hours after the wreck, showed a blood alcohol concentration of .192.
Qualifying begins Feb. 12, and the qualifying deadline is Feb. 24.Â
The special election will be held March 16.
Howard pleaded guilty to embezzlement in Monroe County Circuit Court, and Judge John White ordered his removal from office and a 10-year suspended sentence with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) A Mississippi mayor is being removed from office after pleading guilty to embezzlement by a public official.
News outlets report Aberdeen Mayor Maurice Howard entered the plea Monday in Monroe County Circuit Court. Howard had been set to go on trial this week.
Circuit Judge John White ordered Howard’s removal from office. White also gave Howard a 10-year suspended sentence, which means Howard will not go to prison.
Howard was indicted on embezzlement charges in October 2019. State Auditor Shad White said at the time that Howard was accused of taking city funds meant to pay for travel expenses for city business. White said Howard was paid in advance for attending meetings or conferences but then didn’t go.
