The Georgia Institute of Technology has faculty members who can offer perspective on the alarming Covid-19 infections and deaths in India where cases have exceeded 20 million.
Devesh Ranjan, associate chair in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, has family in India and can speak on the pandemic’s toll on his native country.
Pinar Keskiocak, chair, professor, and director of the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems in the School of Industrial and Electrical Engineering, is an expert in disease spread, hospital operations management, infectious disease modeling and evaluating the effectiveness of intervention strategies. Since the initial Covid-19 outbreak, she has spoken frequently about resource needs such as hospital beds, ventilators, and other equipment needed for coronavirus intervention.

This submission sets out information and recommendations on promoting and protecting the human rights of women and girls with disabilities in conflict and post-conflict situations. Women and girls with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by armed conflicts[2], yet remain underreported and excluded from peace and security processes. INTERSOS is pleased to share its latest lessons learned report – Provision of Legal Aid in Humanitarian Settings, which was produced following a pledge made at the first Global Refugee Forum in December 2019. The research was based on years of learning in providing these services in Afghanistan, Cameroon, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen and other countries. It highlights the importance of providing legal services including assistance, awareness, counselling, and representation to individuals and communities in the humanitarian contexts, as a tool to help minimise their distress and to ensure the essential protection is provided.
