After unprecedented year, ASU spring 2021 grads face the next journey

Journalism graduate Farah Eltohamy saw a problem with representation in the news media. Up all hours, late into the night, Basam Alasaly has spent the past five years modifying apps, writing code and developing medical technology without pay, first while earning his Bachelor of Science in biomedical informatics, and then as a master’s student in the same program at the College of Health Solutions.

Community members join story circles to address anti-Asian racism during COVID-19

April 26, 2021 Following a rise in xenophobia directed toward Asian Americans at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the past few months have seen a string of high-profile attacks that increased awareness of violence against members of the Asian American community. Since the shutdown began over a year ago, nearly 3,800 Asian Americans have reported being victims of racist physical or verbal attacks, according to Stop AAPI Hate, a group formed last year to draw awareness to this issue. To provide an opportunity for the community to come together and address the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes through conversation, the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University held a Storyscope Project event, “Surviving Anti-Asian Racism During COVID-19.” The event was held via Zoom on April 17.

On April 19, 2021 Introducing LinQ Media Group, a new venture in media localization led by old hands at subtitling and dubbing. LinQ is the media localization startup founded by former BTI Studio Execs Björn Lifvergren, Lennart Löf, and Henrik Wikren. LinQ is based in Stockholm, Sweden and launched officially in March 2021.
