Nizamiye Hospital inaugurates COVID-19 test centre

The Nizamiye Hospital Abuja has inaugurated a state-of-the-art molecular laboratory to carry out testing for COVID 19 and other medical cases such as HIV viral load, HVB, and HCV viral loads. At the commissioning ceremony held at the hospital premises, Olorunnimbe Mamora, minister of state for health, said Nizamiye Hospital has displayed a strong commitment to contributing to the development of the health sector in Nigeria. He said: “Testing is key towards our quest in curtailing the further spread of the coronavirus. Sometime last year, Nigeria could boast of only four molecular laboratories, but today, there are well over 140 molecular laboratories in the country.

Lagos leads vaccine allocation with 507,000 doses, FCT 219,800, Katsina 160,000

Officials of the states disclosed these figures to The PUNNCH  in separate interviews just as one of our correspondents gathered that between 150,000 and 160,000 doses would be given to Katsina State. Recall that the Federal Government  on Tuesday last week received  3.94 million doses of the  vaccine from  COVAX facility, an initiative co-led by the Vaccine Alliance, GAVI and the World Health Organisation. On Monday,  50,000 doses of the vaccine were given to  Ogun State by the Federal Government.

The PUNCH gathered that no official of the NCDC or the concerned state governments was attached to the new arrivals, who were expected to be in isolation in their homes for 14 days. The Federal Government on February 9  placed  travel restrictions on 100 passengers for  failing  to comply with the mandatory Day 7 post-arrival COVID-19 test. Government had in January placed similar  travel restrictions on 100  travellers who failed to undergo the compulsory COVID-19 test after returning into the country.
