On May 19, a trio of public health experts from Drexel University convened in a panel discussion to answer questions submitted by faculty and professional staff and to address concerns related to the COVID-19 vaccine.
At Drexel, proof of vaccination against COVID-19 will be mandatory for students in the upcoming academic year with a full return to campus, and the decision about a similar vaccine mandate for employees has not yet been made. Recently, the University surveyed faculty and professional staff about their COVID-19 vaccination status; 50% of employees responded, and 94% of them were either fully vaccinated or in process of vaccination at the time.

Over the weekend, Elon Musk used the occasion of his
Saturday Night Live opening monologue to announce that he has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. Musk claimed to be making history as “the first person with Asperger’s to host or at least the first to admit it.” At Newsweek, opinion contributor Peter Fox described it as a “small but significant milestone in the history of neurodiversity.” There aren’t that many openly autistic writers out there, and we tend to know each other, so I want to be clear that I respect Peter Fox deeply. However, I could not disagree with him more on the nature of this “milestone.” Musk’s “coming out” is self-serving and hollow, a poor attempt at laundering his image as a heartless billionaire more concerned with cryptocurrency and rocket ships than the lives of others.

SNL cast member and all-time great Dan Aykroyd, who has openly discussed his diagnosis for almost two decades, and returned to host in 2003. For Musk to say he was first to do something when he quite obviously wasn’t is entirely on-brand. In 2018, Musk enthusiastically spoke about a bold new kind of transportation: “pods” that transport up to 16 passengers through underground tunnels. Riders could access these pods through “parking-spot-sized stations.” Critics quickly pointed out that Musk was basically describing a subway.

When Elon Musk took the stage to host Saturday Night Live last week, controversy ensued, with cast members expressing their displeasure on social media. And yet, it was on another front entirely that Musk made news on Saturday night, announcing casually that during his opening monologue that he was making history tonight as the first person with Asperger s to host SNL.
He received enormous applause for the revelation from the audience, though Twitter was quick to point out that former SNL cast member Dan Aykroyd was the actual first autistic person to host the show back in 2003.
