The COVID-19 pandemic has both amplified and hidden mental health and addiction struggles, experts say.
Adrienne Spafford, CEO of Addictions and Mental Health Ontario (AMHO), said 74% of Ontarians believe mental health or substance abuse issues have worsened during the pandemic.

“The shadow pandemic,” Spafford said. “Once it feels safe for people to do so physically, I think we are going to see an overwhelming unmet demand of people who have been struggling with their anxiety, with their depression, with their substance use as a way to deal with the necessary pressure that we’ve all been under to address this pandemic.”
