Former Muncie Mayor To Plead Guilty To Federal Corruption Charge

Muncie Human Rights Commission reacts to Derek Chauvin guilty verdict

MUNCIE, Ind.  Following Tuesday s guilty verdict in the murder trail of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, the Muncie Human Rights Commission has released a follow-up statement regarding the case.  The commission released a brief statement prior to the verdict in the case over the killing of George Floyd. In that statement the local HRC asked for calm as the nation awaited the results of the high-profile trial. Chauvin, 45, was found guilty of second- and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, USA Today reported. George Floyd s death in police custody last May, while Chauvin knelt on his neck, led to widespread protests around the U.S. demanding racial justice and police accountability.

City Hall drops mask mandate, despite county buildings keeping it

MUNCIE, Ind.  Muncie City Hall is no longer enforcing a mask mandate despite Delaware County keeping it in place for county-level government offices, according to a memo from the Mayors office obtained by The Star Press. The Delaware County commissioners dropped the requirement for a countywide mask mandate during their meeting on Monday, ultimately saying it falls to local business owners to make their own decisions. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced that the state would be easing the mask mandate into an advisory as of Tuesday, April 6, leaving it to local officials to make overall public health mandates if they chose.
