South Quay regeneration project gets going but will it fit in?

In January construction work officially started on the South Quay project after years of planning. The regeneration project will create a visitor centre, celebrating the town’s history and heritage and incorporating a new library and café. However the specific look of this has not been decided. At the May meeting of the town council, two members of the county council were invited to discuss their plans for the South Quay regeneration site. Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Leisure, Culture & Tourism Paul Miller said they would listen to the town council s ideas, but added: We do need to take the lead as a local authority, you can t hope to make progress if everyone s the chief.

Faster broadband speeds available through Connecting Cumbria programme

Faster broadband connections are available to thousands of residents and businesses in Cumbria and many already have a plan for what they will do when they can access better speeds. A superfast broadband connection provides a faster and more reliable internet connection, enabling multiple users within a home or business to access the internet, download documents, music and video and stream high-definition television without buffering – things that may not be possible with a standard broadband connection. Thanks to a combination of work delivered by the Connecting Cumbria programme, and works carried out by commercial providers, approximately 94 per cent of properties in Cumbria can currently access superfast broadband services above 30Mbps download.
