Keep Shooting
The Wings played arguably their best period of hockey in this early 2020-21 campaign in the first period yesterday. Part of the reason is because they were aggressive on the puck (more on that in a minute) but part also was because they took shots when they were there and got those shots to the net. Not every shot is created equal for sure and they do not need to just start chucking pucks the second they get into the offen

Red Wings takes: Offensive concerns not alleviated in opener

Their first game of 2021 did not alleviate any concerns.
The Red Wings, back after a 10-month layoff, managed only 14 shots on goal in a 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday in their season-opener at Little Caesars Arena.
Several factors contributed:
The power play was not a threat.
They were dominated in the face-off circle.
Tyler Bertuzzi was the team’s best skater early on, providing energy with his hustle, but in the end, his line with Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha were outscored 2-0.
“The line probably pressed too much,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “Everything good comes from checking well and managing the puck. We forced too many plays, tried to make things up that weren’t there, and next thing you know you’re defending and chasing back and it taxes you.”
