CSL signs pact for building dredgers Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) and IHC Holland BV, a Dutch firm doing design and construction of dredgers, for making world-class dredgers. The MoU was signed in the presence of Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mansukh Mandaviya, in Delhi, according to a press release. The release said the DCI was in talks with the shipyard, which expressed its willingness to construct Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) adhering to the best designs and technologies available globally.

Raghava Warrier have been selected for the second Kairali Awards instituted by the State government for lifelong contributions to research. They have been selected for the Kairali Global Lifetime Achievement Prize for Researchers in the respective fields of science, social science, arts, and humanities, a statement by Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel has said. The award carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh and a citation. Linguist Scaria Zacharia, Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Sabu Thomas, and historian P. Sanal Mohan have been adjudicated the winners of the Kairali Lifetime Achievement Award in the respective disciplines of arts and humanities, science and social science. It carries a cash prize of ₹2.5 lakh and a citation.

Mercykutty Amma, Minister for Fisheries and Harbour Engineering, launching marine ambulance in Kochi on Thursday.   | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Vessels can provide emergency medical care for up to 10 passengers Two modern marine ambulances that are aimed at providing swift emergency response to fishermen in distress in the seas were launched here on Thursday by Minister for Fisheries and Harbour Engineering J Mercykutty Amma. The ambulances named Karunya follow the first one Prateeksha which had been launched by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in August 2020. They will operate from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. Costing ₹6.08 crore apiece, they were built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL). These 23-m-long vessels can simultaneously provide emergency medical care for up to 10 passengers.
