HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Montana’s governor on Thursday signed a bill that codifies the right of people to challenge government regulations that interfere with their religious beliefs.
The legislation, by Republican Sen. Carl Glimm, requires the government to have a compelling reason to violate a person’s constitutional right to freedom of religion and to meet its goals in the least restrictive way possible.
“Citizens should not be left defenseless when their government attempts to burden their ability to live and worship according to their faith. This law provides a sensible balancing test for courts to use when reviewing government policies that infringe upon the religious freedom rights of Montanans,” the Alliance Defending Freedom said in

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -Pope Francis visited homeless and needy people getting free COVID-19 vaccines from his Vatican charity on Friday as he celebrated his name day, the feast of St. George.
About 600 of the 1,400 people who received a first dose several weeks ago got their second shot on Friday.
Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio 82 years ago in Buenos Aires, spent about 30 minutes chatting with some of the recipients, many from the area around the Vatican.
As they sang and shouted “auguri” (best wishes) for his name day, he offered them food and sweets including a giant chocolate Easter egg that volunteers cracked open, giving him a piece.

TIRANA, Albania (AP) - An Albanian man with a knife attacked and wounded five people Monday at a mosque in the capital, police said, as investigators tried to determine a motive for the attack.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A Cape Girardeau man was charged Monday with a hate crime after a fire destroyed a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints church in the city, officials said.
Christopher Pritchard, 45, was also charged with second-degree arson, burglary and felony stealing, Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Welker said.
The fire broke out Sunday night and quickly engulfed the church. No one was inside and no one was injured. The church is considered a total loss, The Southeast Missourian reported.
