I am a Quaker now, but I was born and raised in a military family. As the saying goes, I got to Texas as soon as I could, some 14 years ago. As a child, I moved often. But as an adult, Georgia was my home of many years. It was there, in 1988, I learned that nearby, new neighbors found a cross burning on their front lawn. I came to know that within the white power structure, Southern hospitality has its limits.
