Talking Urban Futures in Africa, CSIS Africa Program director Judd Devermont speaks to Tony Goins (director of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development) and Josh Davis (associate vice chancellor for global affairs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, or UNL) about Nebraska’s growing relationship with sub-Saharan Africa. They discuss Nebraska’s robust agriculture sector and deepening ties with the region in the areas of human capacity and development as well as private sector partnerships. Tony, Josh, and Judd also take a close look at the alignment between the Nebraskan state government, UNL, Nebraskan and African companies and organizations, and even the U.S. and African governments that is so critical in making these ties flourish.

The Leader of the Opposition appoints and heads an alternative Shadow Cabinet whose duty is to challenge and influence government legislation on the floor of Parliament.

Being a party with majority Opposition MPs in Parliament, National Unity Platform (NUP) is set to appoint the next Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the House.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party won majority seats in Parliament with about 313 MPs, followed by NUP with 61 MPs. The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party came third with 28 MPs.

ACTRESS Portia Ncwane is making her comeback on e.tv telenovela Imbewu: The Seed after a two-year hiatus.
Portia played Sli Ngwenya in 2018 before she went to represent Mzansi in Washington DC, and focused on theatre and film.
Though she was excited to be back, she said it was a difficult decision to make because her former colleague had died.
The 28-year-old from Newlands East, north of Durban, said Imbewu: The Seed had called and told her that her character would be coming back to the screen.
“It feels good to be back on screen. It was difficult to go back without my close friend Enhle Gambushe, who died in a car accident in 2018,” she said.

Chargé d’Affaires Todd P. Haskell, joined Mission South Africa as the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in March 2021. Mr. Haskell recently served as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Congo from July 2017 until January 2021. He is a 35-year career member of the Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor. He served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs from 2015 until his appointment as Ambassador to Congo. Prior to that, he served as the Director of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, directing the deployment of public diplomacy personnel and resources at 48 U.S. embassies and consulates in Sub-Saharan Africa. In both of the latter positions, he worked with U.S. embassies in the field and agencies in Washington to implement the Mandela Washington Fellowship, the signature program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

From the start of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, women in leadership positions all around the world have played, and continue to play, significant roles in helping their communities get through the pandemic. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern may be the most popular example of this; her leadership has helped her country become practically COVID-19 free, and is even open for concerts while the rest of the world is still grappling with the effects of the pandemic.
