Voting opened at 7am and people can cast their vote until 10pm today (Thursday, May 6). Social distancing measures meant longer queues, and early signs suggested that this year’s election could see higher turnouts than in previous years. Mandy Horton was one of a number of people filing out of Malpas Community Centre and Library shortly after 5pm. She said she believed the pandemic had made people more aware of the Senedd, which she said bodes well for turnout. “People are even more opinionated now [after the pandemic],” she said. “I didn’t know what the Senedd was before the pandemic – but I certainly do now.

An icy Force 4 wind greeted the 60 boats who entered the final day of the Restart series at Grafham Water Sailing Club. The discussion in the dinghy party was not about who could win. Instead, the focus was on who would be the first person to surrender to the temptations of the now open, warm (and socially distanced) changing room. That honour went to John Reynolds of the asymmetric fleet.

Grafham Water Sailing Club members emerged from the long winter hibernation over the Easter weekend blinking like dormice in the unaccustomed sunshine. The Club had laid on a fantastic racing programme starting with two separate one-day youth open meetings on Friday and Saturday, followed by the 4-week Restart club racing series on Sunday.
Good Friday saw 60 young Optimist sailors arrive for the 6-race Easter Egg open meeting. The wind hovered around 15kt, accompanied by cool temperatures. The main fleet event was won by Archie Munro-Price from Castle Cove SC, second was Charlie Gatehouse (Bewl SA) with Emma Breeze (Royal Lymington SC) third. The Optimist Regatta fleet was won by Nia (King George SC) with Freddie Reeves (Cam SC) second and Ryan Su
