Cleanup stations installed at four Riverhead beaches
A group of environmentally minded designers is hoping to make cleaning up beach litter a little easier.
Several East End beaches now have cleanup stations stocked with baskets like those you’d expect to see at the supermarket.
The idea is simple: As you head out onto the beach, grab a basket so you can easily pick up any trash you spot on your walk. On your way back, empty the trash into the garbage and return the basket to the rack.
“The idea comes from that feeling of ‘I forgot to bring a garbage bag and I’m seeing trash on my walk,’ ” said Aiden Kravitz, 25, who started Relic clothing design in Remsenburg with his brother Alex several years ago. “I’ve had that happen to me so many times.”

UPDATED Jan. 8, 8:40 am: Embattled HFZ Capital Group founder Ziel Feldman has sold his Hamptons mansion for $50 million,
The Real Deal has learned.
A source familiar with the matter said the property at 187 Dune Road in Bridgehampton sold in an off-market transaction that closed late last year. Page Six on Thursday night reported the buyer to be sports merchandise mogul Michael Rubin.
The 2021 federal spending bill authorized by Congress Monday night includes funding for numerous projects to buffer the East End’s shoreline from storms and sea level rise.

The 2021 federal spending bill authorized by Congress Monday night includes funding for numerous projects to buffer the East End’s shoreline from storms and sea level rise.
The largest of these projects is the Fire Island to Montauk Point Reformulation Study, in the works for the past 60 years, which contains recommendations for $1.7 billion worth of work to manage tidal flooding, waves and erosion from coastal storms along 83 miles of the South Shore of Long Island.
