Over 240 customers were out of power and a portion of Bay Street was blocked in Stapleton due to an electrical emergency early on Monday afternoon. Wires were down and smoking on Bay near Sands Street. The sidewalk along Bay Street was cordoned off with caution tape near the wires. FDNY and Con Edison were on scene. “This event was unrelated to the earlier one on Staten Island,” said a Karl-Erik Stromsta, a spokesman for Con Edison, referring to a transformer fire that spread to a home on Broad Street from late Sunday night into early Monday morning.
