Lane closures on Mt Rose Highway start Monday as multi-year road project begins

Lane closures will begin May 17 at the Mt. Rose Highway summit (State Route 431) as the Nevada Department of Transportation launches a multi-year road project to repave and enhance two mountainous Tahoe-area highways. Beginning May 17 through late June, single-lane closures will take place Sundays at 8:00 p.m. through Fridays at noon on Mt. Rose Highway from the summit to the State Route 28 roundabout as crews install roadway conduit and improve drainage pipes. While the majority of delays will be minimal, drivers can anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes with traffic flaggers and pilot cars alternating directions of traffic through the work zone.

West Shore s Ed Miller hits 39th year with Meeks Bay Fire

This March marked Miller’s 39th year on the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District board and for 37 of those years, he served as the board’s president. Miller is well known on the West Shore for his continued passion in serving the community. Miller moved to Tahoma in 1978 and before that he was living on the North Shore at Carnelian Bay two years prior. Before settling in the basin, Miller traveled around the country with his wife, Lolly Kupec, after leaving their home across the nation in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Bill Rozak Tahoe Daily Tribune INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park’s Sand Harbor and Cave Rock boat ramps will open for the season on Saturday, May 1. From May 1 to May 27, the Sand Harbor boat ramp will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the Cave Rock boat ramp will be open from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Beginning May 28, boat ramp hours at Sand Harbor and Cave Rock will be extended to 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and remain at these hours until they either close for the season or close due to low water levels.

NDOT to launch 2-year paving plan in May for Incline area highways

Staff Report INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. Nevada Department of Transportation has launched a 2-year highway project that will impact two mountainous Lake Tahoe highways starting this spring and summer in Incline Village and Crystal Bay. Commercial truck restrictions and shoulder closures will begin on Mount Rose Highway (State Route 431) Monday, May 3 as NDOT repaves and enhances the roadway. Beginning May 3 through fall, commercial trucks of 26,000 pounds or greater will be prohibited from traveling westbound over SR-431 further than Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, according to a NDOT press release. Trucks will be allowed to travel eastbound from Incline Village to Reno. The truck closure is a safety precaution to prevent trucks traveling down the mountain potentially encountering brake issues in the road work zone.
