Dubois / Sandy Twp. Merger 11:08 pm
After voting to move forward with a consolidation study last January, DuBois City Manager Herm Suplizio said they’re making progress.
“Shawn Arbaugh, Sandy Township Manager and I have been working on it probably I’d say weekly getting the information to the people that are doing the consolidation study,” he said.
The study which was conducted by the Pennsylvania Economy League takes a look at both municipalities’ financials and the efficiency of consolidating
Before anything moves forward, Suplizio said residents in Sandy Township and DuBois will have a voice in this.
“We’re not saying that it’s pro-consolidation or not to consolidate, what we’re saying is that we want to get all the information out there so that people can make an educated decision,” he said.
PLAIN TWP. At least an hour before the first shot was even ready, folks began arriving at the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities headquarters eager to get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Stark County Health Department scheduled the 420 doses each going to someone 80 years old or older for fixed times throughout the day. That didn t stop people from arriving early to secure a place in line.
Mary Powell, 87, of Jackson Township, was the first to go, rolling up the sleeves of her purple blouse and baring her shoulder for nurse Shannon Gahagan.
Powell expected the shot to hurt. She d watched others get the vaccine on TV and noticed how large the needle looked. But she didn t feel anything at all.
How can I get vaccinated?
It depends on where you live. Stark County is served by four different health departments.
Your health department is based on where you pay taxes, not your mailing address or school district. For example, someone who lives in Plain Township but has a Canton mailing address would need to contact the Stark County Health Department.
If you re unsure of your municipality, you can check by searching for your address on the Stark County auditor s online real estate search, available at starkcountyohio.gov/auditor.
The Ohio Department of Health will list vaccine providers and information, searchable by zip code, on its website at coronavirus.ohio.gov starting Thursday.
Back the Blue Campaign 1:36 am
With conversations of defunding the police going on in our nation, Nick Suplizio started the Back the Blue Campaign here in DuBois to support our local police departments.
“There was just a lot of talk about defunding the police and I didn’t think for our area I really thought that we were better than that. I wanted people to know that we support our local police here,” said Nick Suplizio.
Suplizio started the Back the Blue T-shirt campaign to raise money for both the DuBois and Sandy Township police departments.
He said Aaron Fairman owner of Downtown Imprints is making the shirts and Chad Barnard with CVB Media came up with the design.
