At Village Council’s final meeting of 2020, Council unanimously passed a budget for the new year calling for spending increases amid falling revenues.
The deficit budget, the Village’s first in four years, includes $4.23 million in expenses while projecting revenue of $3.27 million.
Council had been discussing the budget with Village staff since October. Since it was first proposed, staff trimmed some expenses in response to Council member concerns about going in the red.
No citizens spoke at the public hearing ahead of the second and final vote.
Council Vice President Marianne MacQueen emphasized that spending was up in 2021 because reserves have been set aside for years specifically for infrastructure investments.
In January, the News reported on efforts to alleviate previous delays in drug orders and other difficulties at Benzer Pharmacy, formerly Town Drug. A regional manager for the national pharmacy chain pointed to issues with the company’s wholesaler related to new acquisitions of pharmacy locations in Ohio. The local pharmacy has since regained its footing, and in November, the downtown store a pharmacy location for about 90 years changed its name to Yellow Springs Pharmacy.
Clem & Thyme Nutrition and Wellness expanded its East Enon Road practice, the News reported in February. Founded by Leslie Edmunds, the practice offers nutrition therapy, dietary consulting, cooking classes and more.
The person who held the winning Powerball ticket sold at the Round Hill Shopping Center in Frederick County has come forward to claim her prize.
Sheila Hawse of Yellow Spring, West Virginia, is the winner of the $1 million prize for the Dec. 16 drawing.
Hawse was helping her sister drop off some cakes her sister had baked for employees at the store at 2758 Northwestern Pike (U.S. 50 West). While she was there, she bought a ticket for the Powerball drawing.
The winning numbers for that drawing were 4-23-37-61-67, and the Powerball number 7. She matched the first five numbers, missing only the Powerball numbers, to win Powerballâs second prize of $1 million.

Apparently, nothing promising was discovered.
“Baldwin buys Kings Yard. The sale of the long building of shops in Kings Yard that was auctioned off in April was finalized last week by the purchaser, Bob Baldwin. While local resident Dave Chappelle won the bid on the property in April, he never closed the contract … and Baldwin agreed to buy the property … for $440,000.”
