The city of Perham is switching its provider for natural gas.
The Perham City Council approved a three-year contract with Utility Safety and Design Inc. for the city’s natural gas services at the regular council meeting on Monday, Feb. 8.

The Hammers Construction crew began the demolition of the old Perham High School s east end and administration wing on Monday, Jan. 18. The structure was separated from the west wing the previous week. The remaining part of the building will be remodeled into the Hub after the demolition is completed.
The remodeled part of the Hub project will be completed by Tradesman Construction and has an estimated completion date of Sept. 3.
The City of Perham purchased the old high school from the Perham-Dent Public Schools with the intent of transforming it into the Hub. Once complete the Hub will serve as a new home for Perham s Boys and Girls Club and Empowering Kids. . (RosaLin Alcoser/Focus)

From its large lumberyard in eastern Henrico County, the Ruffin & Payne Lumber Co. ships out building products to construction projects around the Richmond region.
With 40 years of experience in the lumber industry, company President George E. Haw says he hasnât experienced anything quite like what has happened this year with lumber prices, as the COVID-19 pandemic has played havoc with them almost all of 2020.
âItâs been crazy,â Haw said. âIâve been around a long time, and I have never seen a lumber market behave like this in 40 years.â
On a recent ride around the lumber yard, his son, George W. Haw, the companyâs vice president and director of purchasing, pointed out some of the varieties of lumber stacked around the operation and how prices have been affected. That includes some of the most common types of lumber used in home construction â southern yellow pine, which is often used in house framing, and spruce fir pine.
