THE day before Farmer Nappy won The Monarch soca crown, he was giving an exhilarating performance at MovieTowne, Invaders Bay, Port of Spain.
He continued his winning streak when on Wednesday, it was announced he topped the bmobile TUCO online Road March competition.
On stage, Farmer aka Darryl Henry, joined fellow artiste Marvin Swappi Davis as the headline acts for Soca Shockwave as part of five days of Carnival City events at MovieTowne, which included pan, chutney, calypso and a Carnival market.

Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry has won the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) and bmobile’s online Road March competition in a year of no march on the road. And for him, it is a win for the people.
Besides winning the online Road March, he also won the Soca Monarch with a prize of $150,000.
Carnival 2021 was cancelled because of the covid19 pandemic.
He was presented with his $100,000 prize at a ceremony at the TSTT suite, Queen’s Park Oval, Tragarete Road, Port of Spain on Wednesday.
Long-time friend and former bandmate Machel Montano congratulated Farmer Nappy on his win saying, “From day one we knew this will come. ‘Darieeeeeeeee’ ah could hear Miss Virgie and Ma Barbs right next to her crying with joy for their son.
Public Service Announcement: Check on your Trininadian friends. Check on all of your Caribbean friends. They re not OK. Because for perhaps the first time in Caribbean history, that time of year has rolled around and the unthinkable has become real: Trinidad Carnival. Is. Cancelled.
To understand the appalling gravitas of this situation, try to imagine the cancellation of, say, Christmas. Or, broadly speaking, the event holy public ritual, really that motivates tens of thousands of people around the world to keep on keeping on amid the daily drudgeries and mundane indignities of this nine-to-five life, because they know that come February, there shall be an ecstatic release: They will be covered in oil or paint, drink in hand, shimmering costume on deck, dancing through the streets of Port of Spain and giving thanks for a life that is a grand gift wholly drugged by music, dance, joy and love.
