Out of the 12 fatalities since May 1, four were speed related, three involved alcohol and two were unbelted motorists, according to preliminary figures from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.

Author: Driving-related deaths on Minnesota roads are rising at a blistering pace and the Department of Public Safety is again asking motorists to make good choices while traveling.  The alert comes after 12 people died in traffic crashes in the first six days of May, including five motorcyclists. What s more is that of the 12 deaths, four were speed-related, three involved alcohol or drugs and two were unbelted motorists.  The DPS tallied 122 deaths on Minnesota roads through May 6, which is well ahead of 2020 s pace when there were 93 deaths at the same point. Minnesota finished 2020 with 394 driving-related deaths, putting this year on pace to surpass 400 for the first time since 2015.

The project will help ease traffic congestion and prevent crashes on an important freight route through southern Minnesota. DAHLGREN TOWNSHIP  There’s a good chance that many southwest Minnesota residents have traveled along the roughly 5 miles of highway between the cities of Cologne and Carver. As part of the U.S. Highway 212 corridor, the road is traveled every day by thousands of semi trucks and vehicles from 74 of Minnesota’s 87 counties. And now, Carver County is set to start construction to expand portions of Highway 212 to four lanes.
