Buddha statue painted bright red on McGregor Boulevard brings mixed reviews Instead of the gold color, it is now a bold, bright, red.  Owner Ozzie Morrobel said after years of wear and tear, the statue needed to be touched up.  “I kept looking at it every day thinking you know what, it needs some loving, to brighten it up a little bit,” Morrobel said.  “I said why not red? Let’s give it a shot, it’s the holidays. It’s the perfect color for the holidays,” he added.  Some business owners nearby said they like the change. They said it’s hard to miss and they are hoping it attracts more people to the area.

Salty Papa’s Shrimp House in Fort Myers is no exception. But the owner found it in her heart to give to those who are even worse off than she is. Co-owner Vallee Arnett is preparing to feed her neighbors. They’re making turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and there’s even candy. “Just kinda whipped it together,” Arnett said. Salty Papa’s is on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers, where Arnett said, after seeing long food distribution lines day after day, she knew she had to do something.

Portion of McGregor Boulevard to temporarily close for construction FORT MYERS, Fla. – McGregor Boulevard will be closed from Winkler road to Dean Way for crews to install drainage structures underneath the road. The closure is scheduled to run from 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4 through 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25. Drivers should follow detour signs and use caution as crews work in the roadway. McGregor Boulevard will remain open to local traffic only. The work is part of the McGregor Boulevard drainage project from Dean Way to River Palm Court. The expected completion date of the project is late Spring 2021.

Veterans Vietnam Memorial monument could be moved to Cape Coral

Veterans Vietnam Memorial monument could be moved to Cape Coral FORT MYERS, Fla. The Cape Coral City Council will discuss whether to move a memorial dedicated to Vietnam veterans at a meeting today, Dec 7, at 4:30 p.m. The Southwest Florida Vietnam Veterans Memorial is dedicated to 80 veterans from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Currently standing on McGregor Boulevard at Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers, the memorial’s limited parking and accessibility is threatened by future road improvements and highway expansions. The City of Cape Coral had previously designated an area near several monuments honoring America’s military as the “The Veterans Pavilion Memorial” located in Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve.
