The municipality hopes to have the winter road connecting Fort Chipewyan to Fort McMurray open by Jan. 1, but it is not likely the road will be open by Christmas.
In a statement, the RMWB said constructions crews are working daily to flood ice crossings and build the updated route through the delta to get the road open. The road was originally planned to open on Dec. 15 but was delayed because of warm weather and high water levels. It is not known how long the delay will last.

The municipality will offer voluntary buyouts to Ptarmigan Court residents, continue flood mitigation in Waterways, and offer funding for flood-proofing solutions to Draper residents on a case-by-case basis.
Development will be limited below the flood lines in the three communities, as well as in downtown, Longboat Landing and Taiga Nova Industrial Park.
