LA Mayor’s Job Creation Claim Raises Questions

About a week ago, on April 21, the Los Angeles mayor released his $11.23 billion budget proposal for the 2021–22 fiscal year.
The night before, Mayor Eric Garcetti gave his State of the City speech, offering some rationale for his budget. He called it “a financial document … but also a roadmap,” providing a vision of the city’s future.
Within that vision, he made the claim that the capital improvement projects at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the Port of Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power combined with the proposals he was making for the city-run budget “are creating more than a million new jobs for our city.”

How much is open? Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay water park are open, but some attractions are closed each month for refurbishment.
COVID restrictions: Capacity is limited and no guests will be admitted once capacity has been reached. All guests age 3 and over are required to wear face coverings. Temperatures are checked at the gate. Virtual lines are in place for some attractions. Cashless transactions are encouraged.

Disneyland is a marvel of immersion. When you step into the gates, the real world melts away, replaced by little vignettes of fantasy. Except Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland is a mess.
There have been better and worse versions of Tomorrowland. But none have ever really worked, and Walt Disney himself knew it from the start.
Tomorrowland was a last-minute addition. Disney had grand visions but not unlimited funds, and many ideas went by the wayside during the planning and construction of Disneyland.
