Norfolk and Plymouth county leaders know they are in line for an estimated $238 million in funding from the $1.9 trillion federal stimulus package passed in March, but are still waiting from guidance from the U.S. Treasury Department on what they can do with the money.
Estimates from the National Association of Counties put Norfolk County s slice of the $1.3 billion earmarked for counties in Massachusetts at $137 million, which needs to be spent by the end of 2024. Plymouth County is expected to receive $101 million.
Norfolk County Commissioner Joe Shea of Quincy said everyone is waiting for the Treasury Department to release its guidance on how to use the money, as well as how much the counties will get.
