Staff Writer LISBON Juniors and seniors at David Anderson High School will be able to end a turbulent school year on a high note. During its Thursday meeting, the Lisbon school board approved several in-person events prom and its parade of fashions, an after-prom event and graduation to round it all off. Last year, prom at Drake’s Landing banquet center in Canfield was canceled due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds from the event were saved and put toward this year’s prom, set for 7 p.m. April 30 also at Drake’s Landing. The parade of fashions will start the day off at 6:30 p.m. at the DAHS gym.

Big Grant to Help Before and After School Programs

Big Grant to Help Before and After School Programs After school learning programs to keep kids engaged will be at three more schools in the valley this summer thanks to a new federally-funded U.S. Dept. of Education grant being provided through Washington’s Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. ESD or Educational Service District 105 officials say the 21st Century Grant will support before and after-school programs in science, math, and reading. The grant will help fund the programs for students at Adams Elementary, McKinley Elementary, and Ridgeview Elementary in the Yakima School district. 80 students at each school will be involved in the program during each five years of the grant. Woman arrested after anti-Biden vandalism in Fairfield

Updated: 12:55 PM EST January 28, 2021 FAIRFIELD, Conn Earlier this month, a school and store were found graffitied with anti-Joe Biden rhetoric.  Police said the woman responsible, 65-year-old Emily Winters, of Fairfield, turned herself in Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. According to a release, Winters was identified as as potential suspect after police received several tips from local residents. She confessed to defacing the exterior walls of TJ Maxx, the foundation of the Tunxis Hill Corner Plaza and the driveway of McKinley School. Winters had spray-painted the phrase United States of China on a sidewalk at McKinley Elementary School. The same phrase was also found by officers spray-painted on a snowbank in the back of the school s parking lot.
