Place North West | Peel lines up first tranche of Trafford Waters resi

Sarah Townsend The landowner is courting developers to help it bring it forward a trio of sites that would deliver the first 400 of 3,000 homes of the £1bn project on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. The residential schemes being planned include one part-affordable, part-open market development; one project focussed on care and senior living accommodation, and one build-to-rent scheme that Peel L&P would bring forward itself with the backing of a funding institution, the company’s executive director of development James Whittaker told Place North West. Peel L&P secured outline consent in 2018 for Trafford Waters, a mixed-use scheme on a 63-acre development site it owns opposite the Trafford Centre. The scheme is expected to take two decades to complete.

Place North West | February application for TraffordCity surf scheme

Sarah Townsend Developer McKinney Group aims to submit full plans for the £60m surf centre off Barton Dock Road next month, following a public consultation that launched last week. The complex, called Modern Surf Manchester, would be the region’s first inland surfing lagoon and would enable surf beginners, learners and professionals to test their skills. It would also house other adventure facilities on brownfield land owned by Peel L&P as part of its TraffordCity mixed-use development in Greater Manchester. The scheme proposes a surfing lagoon operated by Wavegarden – a company that specialises in man-made wave generating technologies – together with bar and restaurant facilities and other interactive attractions for visitors, as well as a pump track and fitness zone, half-pipe skateboarding area, bouldering and balancing zones.
