MUMBAI: Amid the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in the state, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is expected to announce a complete lockdown in the state from Wednesday (April 21, 2021) in order to break the chain of coronavirus infections.
According to the sources, the MVA government may announce a
two-week lockdown in the state as the existing break the chain guidelines aren t proving to be efficient.
In a serious bid to curb the rising COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra Cabinet had on Tuesday unanimously requested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to announce a complete lockdown o contain the spread o the infections.

The controversy around the involvement of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Devendra Fadnavis and Pravin Darekar in efforts to procure antiviral drug remdesivir for Maharashtra from Daman-based Bruck Pharma deepened on Monday.
The Indian Express that his party colleague Darekar had asked the Maharashtra Food and Drug administration to buy the drug from Bruck Pharma. But, Darekar had said last week that the saffron party planned to buy 60,000 vials of the medicine for Rs 4.75 crore as a “noble gesture”.
A political slugfest began on April 17 after both Fadnavis and Darekar rushed to the Vile Parle police station in Mumbai as authorities were questioning a director of Bruck Pharma about a large consignment of remdesivir they said was being stored in the city. It came at a time when states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat have complained about a shortage of the drug, which is being used to treat critical corona

In what turned out to be a storm in a tea-cup, the 60,000 vials of Remdesivir injections procured by the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was intended for the Maharashtra government, Foods & Drugs Administration Minister Dr. Rajendra Shingane admitted on Tuesday. I was aware of it. The BJP leaders had met me at my house along with the manufacturers representatives. They offered to help us procure the Remdesivir stocks for the state government and I agreed to it, Dr. Shingane told a local private TV channel.

Mumbai, April 20 : Continuing the drive against hoarders, the Maharashtra Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) along with Mumbai Police raided two locations and seized large stocks of the much-in-demand Remdesivir injections, an official said here on Tuesday.
In the first instance, the police-FDA teams swooped on the premises of an exporter and recovered 2,000 vials of Remdesivir from Marol in Andheri east.
In the second action, the teams raided another exporter based in Marine Lines, south Mumbai and seized 200 vials of the injection.
