xMUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a money laundering case against former home minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (MPLA) and will investigate if there was any financial transaction between him and dismissed assistant police inspector Sachin Waze.
The ED will examine the financial statements of companies associated with Deshmukh and his family members. It will also investigate firms associated with Waze and his family members and their financial transactions. A source said, “The ED will examine if there was any financial connection between Deshmukh and Waze. Subsequently, they will also inquire if any transaction took place between them and others associated with the bribery allegation, including former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.”
The central probe agency may now summon Deshmukh for interrogation.
MUMBAI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday registered a money laundering case against former home minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The case was registered on the basis of an FIR filed by CBI.
The CBI had registered the case against Deshmukh after conducting an inquiry ordered by the Bombay high court based on a letter written by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Last March, Singh was shunted from the post of Mumbai police commissioner after a controversy over an explosive-laden vehicle parked outside Mukesh Ambani s building in South Mumbai. The vehicle was parked by Waze who was heading the CIU cell of Mumbai police and directly reporting to Singh.

Hours after the Enforcement Directorate registering an enforcement case information report, former Home Minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh in a video message has said that truth can be troubled but cannot be defeated . In a video message, the NCP leader said that he is being trapped in various controversies for political benefits. The former minister said that the Centre is possibly disappointed for the decisions that he had taken while serving as a home minister of Maharashtra.
NEW DELHI: The CBI is conducting searches at at least three places including the residence of former Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh after filing an FIR into the extortion allegations levelled against him by former Mumbai CP Param Bir Singh.
The agency filed a an FIR under sections of prevention of corruption Act against Deshmukh after winding up its preliminary enquiry on Friday.
On April 14, the CBI had grilled Deshmukh for eight hours, focusing on the NCP leader s equations with former Mumbai CP, suspended API Sachin Waze and the authenticity of the WhatsApp messages sent to him by ACP Sanjay Patil.
The CBI team had asked Deshmukh whether Waze would visit him at his residence and if it was normal for the former home minister to meet officials of Waze s rank at his home.
