NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) - The Northwestern State University food pantry, an organization created in 2015 to help combat food insecurity on campus, recently received a sizable donation thatâs sure to raise spirits.
Thousands donated to NSU food pantry
According to NSU, Mike Knotts, a 1986 graduate and long-time supporter of the university, was awestruck by the food pantryâs role on campus following a tour of the facility.
The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra will present a concert on Feb. 8-9 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Douglas Bakenhus is music director of the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra. Juan Pablo Paternina Paez is the graduate assistant conductor. The Feb. 8 concert is for NSU students. Admission is free with a current student I.D. Tickets to the Feb. 9 concert are for the general public and are $15. Seating is limited to 72. Masks are required and social distancing should be observed. Symphony season ticket subscribers are encouraged to make reservations by calling (318) 357-4522. Any reservation made and not claimed by 7:20 p.m. the night of the performance will be released. Those wishing to buy tickets at the door are requested to arrive early and be placed on the waiting list. The concert will be livestreamed at https://capa.nsula.edu/livestream/
Northwestern State University music faculty Dr. Dennette Derby McDermott and Dr. Douglas Bakenhus will present a recital on Monday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Limited admission is available for NSU students, faculty and staff only. Social distancing should be observed and masks are required. The concert will livestream at capa.nsula.edu/livestream.
The concert features McDermott on all 12 fantasies for solo flute by Telemann. Bakenhus will perform with McDermott on five of the pieces on bassoon.
McDermott is professor of flute and coordinator of graduate studies at Northwestern State, where she has taught since 1990. McDermott has performed in the Czech Republic,
