Roses and thorns: 5-16-21 By Editorial Board • 7 hours ago A rose to Crime Prevention Task Force, which will use its monthly meeting to stage a town hall to discuss its plans and seek citizen input as it addresses the recent uptick in violent crime in the community. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Trotter Center. During the meeting, the Task Force committees will lay out their plans, but also want to hear from citizens and ideas they may have. The task force hopes to use that information as it puts together its final report, which will then be presented to the mayor and council and police department. Monday’s meeting, then, is an opportunity to participate in these efforts, so whether you are simply interested in what steps are being considered or have ideas that, as of now, haven’t been presented, we encourage citizens to attend and participate. Ribbon cuttings held for brewery, candy shop GREAT BEND – The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassador’s Club hosted Ribbon Cuttings at 1305 and 1403 Main Street to recognize two businesses. The first was for the opening of Dry Lake Brewing. Named after Lake Barton, Dry Lake is the first brewery ever in Great Bend and is locally owned. Kevin Burkey and Ryan Fairchild opened the business on May 6 with seven employees. Currently, the brewery is open from 3 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturdays. On days without a food truck on site, you can bring in food or have it delivered to the brewery. Go to the website for a list of days with food and menus for each day.
