Entertainment Briefs - Jan 6 | Brainerd Dispatch

Written By: Brainerd Dispatch | × Artist designs for ox sculpture sought The Destination Downtown Coalition, in partnership with the city of Brainerd and The Crossing Arts Alliance, are bringing Babe the Blue Ox to downtown Brainerd. Nor-Son Construction donated a Babe the Blue Ox statue that’s been at its Baxter office since 2008. After a successful fundraiser of donations from the community to secure the statue and address some much needed repairs, the art center is ready for the next step to find artists to design and paint the ox sculpture. “We want this to be a community project that adds to downtown Brainerd s uniqueness,” the arts center stated in a news release. “The Crossing Arts Alliance will be putting together a panel to determine location/placement, finding great local artists, and jury the submissions, for who will be doing the honors of creating downtown Brainerd s latest attraction!”

ALBANY — A four-lane highway project linking Albany to Valdosta and U.S. Interstate 75 South got a major boost this week with the awarding of a contract to complete roughly one-third of the remaining work on the project. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced the $62.7 million contract with Reames and Son Construction of Valdosta on Tuesday. It is the largest of 15 construction projects now set for construction, totaling $103.74 million. The 8.55 mile stretch of roadway in Colquitt County will complete the work from U.S. 319/Georgia Highway 35 north to Mike Horne Road. Eventually the work will complete four-laning to the Mock Road intersection in Dougherty County.

By Kevin C. Hall | kevin.hall@gaflnews.com Dec 22, 2020 Dec 22, 2020 MOULTRIE, Ga. —  Like a kid waiting for Santa at Christmas, Colquitt Countians may have thought a four-lane highway to Albany would never get here. But a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation on Tuesday gives us reason to keep believing. The GDOT awarded 15 construction contracts across the state in November, the press release announced. The largest one was the first of five widening projects on Highway 133 North. In all, the transportation projects awarded last month totaled $103,744,588, the GDOT said. Of that, approximately $62.7 million was awarded to Reames and Son Construction, Inc., of Valdosta to widen and reconstruct 8.55 miles on State Route 133 from U.S. Highway 319 (State Route 35) to north of Mike Horne Road in Colquitt County.
